Strange Ghost are the husband-wife duo of Christopher and Ayomide Donald, an alt-soul band from the south of Birmingham, combining futuristic production with a love of classic R&B.
The duo released their debut EP, 'Stagger', in 2017: a rolling cloud of synths, dragging beats and zestful melodies. A five-piece live band brought the tracks to life on stage in a series of soulful and euphoric gigs, including a headline slot at legendary indie venue Hare & Hounds and supporting Danish pop wunderkind MØ at Birmingham’s O2 Institute.
New single ‘Wilder’ is their first release in four years: a hymn to late-stage capitalism, the madness of the current moment, as mankind tries to fix its problems by digging ever-deeper holes. Written before the pandemic, the images of empty roads and senseless escapism have only become more potent in the past year. It's a driving, drum-heavy track, staking out a sweet spot between futuristic soul and dance music - made for the stage, but headphones will have to do.
